Cost and Financial Support

Pros:

  • "They also allow certain individuals to allocate a single pet, (for example someone has two cats) they nominate one of the Pets as a payment free pet."
  • "Amazing service such caring vets so in sync with animals wouldn't go anywhere else I always donate and there always so shocked and grateful."
  • "They are brilliant they had to do an emergency operation on my dog. They saved her life without the PDSA I would not have been able to afford the cost if it had been a private vet so thank you for saving Bella's life."
  • "Brilliant organisation and a fantastic place for pet lovers On low income... And anyone wanting veterinary help."
  • "Welcoming to Owners who receive State Welfare Benefits (like housing benefit, Council Tax reduction, and of course, Employment and support Allowance), and require mostly all Veterinary Services will be able to benefit from there PDSA's Professional, Superb, and Friendly service."
  • "The service is contribution based, basically pay what you can."
  • "They are brilliant staff always go above and beyond, my Costa has needed to visit a lot recently, always give a reasonable donation but it is nothing compared to taking him to my local vet's."

Cons:

  • "When we had one of our cats injured they wanted to amputate her tail at a cost of 150 while on benefits so we only opted for painkillers and she is fine now and another friend has a cat who possibly has a broken leg they said it would cost 100-150 even on benefits and they say they are a charity."
  • "Lost all the stars, if possible I would have given you 0 zero. First words out of vets mouth were 'we should talk about putting her to sleep', I explained I'd brought her for tests for hyperthyroidism which causes a galloping heart rate, but no, sent in another vet who checked first was I still free treatment or the reduced cost, I was free! She explained 'we're a charity' so finally I took my pet back to local vets and she's now on thyroid treatment and improving daily."
  • "I think it's awful how people on benefits get there vet bills payed for and working people that can't afford money upfront don't have a leg to stand on new rules should be applied as they are all living creatures."
  • "Took my rottie in today as he has a large lump; it turns out it's a tumour cancerous. But they won't operate as it's too expensive so I'm left with a poorly dog not impressed at all they were very unprofessional and were scared of my dog and acted very childish around him."
  • "Terrible service and charged me £130 for emergency appointment in. Preston as we though our cat was poisoned and left us sitting for over an hour terrified our cat was dying while they sat chatting."
  • "This vet claims to be there to help those struggling with low-income living when it comes to pet care however rather than helping they are telling you to go elsewhere, to a private vet that they absolutely know she cannot afford… is that not the whole point of being registered with PDSA??"
  • "You now need to pay a £20 fee before a vet or vet nurse will even talk to you on the phone!"

Quality of Care

Pros:

  • "All the staff are wonderful. We saw a lovely vet who was so kind and considerate with our cat Danny and also with our poorly Staffy Barney."
  • "Once I'd spoken to the vets I was immediately put at ease & advised & guided how to help my pet."
  • "The vets and nurses are sooo kind over me having my old dog pts, they were wonderful and offer an amazing service."
  • "Amazing, I'd rather my pets go to PDSA than any other private vets, this is due to having terrible experience's including care and expenses!"
  • "Always super with my not so little lady. Was an incident with another dog growling and attempting to get at my puppy. As I had my young child with my also I had to loudly ask the man to remove his dog as I don’t feel safe."
  • "Always treated my big dog with love and care. Vets are lovely with him and its the only vets I've been in that doesn't have a tinge of urine to the air."
  • "Was treated with empathy and compassion, a wonderful team there who go the extra mile."

Cons:

  • "Took my puppy here as he has had diarrhea for 3 weeks solid now, they've had me at five different appointments only to be told they don't know what's wrong with him."
  • "Absolute waste of your time and energy!! Not only do they belittle you and make you feel stupid like you haven’t a clue about anything to do with your own dog, they also just plain and simple DO NOT CARE."
  • "Lovely clean place and friendly staff and vets, unfortunately I was there because my dog at the age of 12 was diagnosed with diabetes and after a week of not eating she sadly had to be put to sleep and left our family distraught."
  • "Do not take your pet to this place They left my dog in pain and dying when it should of been put down The vet just rushed us through roughly handled the dog which was in pain and distress."
  • "The vet is horrible he said to me all just put him down then if u want and he's currently very healthy he's very cruel and should of been a butcher not a vet killing animals for fun and no valid reason."
  • "The after care & distribution of medication after my dogs intense & very sore ear operation I feel could of been dealt with differently by providing more pain relief initially rather than a week of him in pain & discomfort."
  • "Today my Baby was put to sleep .. Totally traumatised by the whole experience.. no compassion no care ..no sedative ..terrified my dog with the electric shaver rushed no explanation of what they were going to do .. not even to say they what they were putting into him ..what to expect nothing .. in the corner of the room no blanket nothing .. these people meant to care for animals."

Staff and Service

Pros:

  • "Amazing fast and friendly service when my dog needed help."
  • "Had occasion to take one of my cats here today. Phoned first & told to bring her straight down. She was seen & treated without delay, even though they were busy."
  • "Always there with a smile to encourage us to keep going when everything seems to be the end for our adorable pets."
  • "Every member of staff I have met there goes above and beyond to make sure you are at ease with the way they treat you and your pet."
  • "These guys under extreme pressure daily dealing with poorly animals as a team do a great job in an emergency situation, acting promptly with extreme care & consideration for both animal & owner."
  • "The staff were incredibly sympathetic and caring when our Beautiful Boy (lab) was poorly."
  • "The person on reception are extremely friendly and caring especially to all animals needing their services, and extremely knowledgeable when giving out prescriptions from vets to owners and explain when to give it to animals."

Cons:

  • "The reception staff are very friendly but the guy vet is so rude and doesn't even look at u when he's talking to u, and certainly doesn't want to hear anything u have to tell him."
  • "Don't know who I spoke to this morning but the service was totally shocking informed the ladie that my dog was registered with the clinic couldn't Physically walk and my gf was on holiday and wasn't bk for 2days time but I have all information or could give all information or get her to call in ASAP was basically told nothing they can do get her to call back tue and we can take it from there if you want to go private that be the best option ladie was just totally rude and here service definitely needs attention and looking in to."
  • "Never too much to ask for help with your pet. I've knocked a star off for way I was spoke to by the lady who was handing out the prescription."
  • "Still can't get an appointment with this place, They're to let you fill an online form before they contact you and need to pay £20 before a vet calls you back at their convenience."
  • "First visit. ,so impressed with the very polite manner and helpful assistance from the lovely receptionists and veterinary surgeon this morning, both over the phone and in the surgery."
  • "Was a bit of a chilly wait outside due to covid restrictions and got bad news about my doggy."
  • "Absolute shambles of a veterinary clinic. I would rather take my dog to a high priced REAL vet than take my boy back to this place for a second visit! NEVER AGAIN!"
